Leading Health Care Lafayette
Lafayette (Corporate Office)
Located along the Vermilion River in the southwestern part of the state, Lafayette is the fourth-largest city in the state and headquarters for Leading Health Care of Louisiana. The company employs more than 50 administrative employees at its downtown location. The company continues to grow and is looking to move to a new location in the next 18 months.
The company was founded by Ms. Josette Rovira in 1997. A native of Marksville, La., she moved to Lafayette in the 1980s to begin her career as a registered nurse. When the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) “waiver” program began in the early 1990s, she saw an opportunity to continue her passion of helping people by starting a company dedicated to serving the developmentally disabled population who deserved a better life of care in the comfort of their own home instead of institutional facilities.
More than 20 years later, Leading Health Care is the largest, private in-home care services agency delivering more diverse services and opportunities than any other provider company. The company continues to advocate for better services and opportunities for the developmentally disabled.
Our Lafayette location is the only Home and Community Based Provider in Louisiana that offers art and music therapy for its clients. The St. Pierre Center for the Arts in Lafayette is named after Pierre Coco, Josette’s uncle who had Down’s Syndrome, and was an artist himself. The art center offers classes five days a week designed to improve the quality of life for individuals through art and music therapy.
In 2016, Leading Health Care expanded its community outreach by organizing the first-ever festival in Acadiana to embrace the abilities and talents of the developmentally disabled and how they make a difference in the Acadiana community by experiencing their amazing stories. Now in its third year, the Festival de Success draws hundreds of participants, caregivers and community volunteers that provide services to people with disabilities in the Acadiana community.
Live music, dancing, face painting, food, games and other activities provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the amazing gifts and talents of this community. We invite you to join us, get acquainted with someone who has a developmental disability and those that care for them. You will learn that everyone has a unique and amazing story. It’s one more way Leading Health Care fulfills its mission of “helping people live a better life.”
